Dr. Lerner chose to be a psychotherapist because she knows how good it feels to have a person listen and try to understand. Since life is about growth and challenges, she likes to think that psychotherapy is part of that process. She has been in the field for 35 years. She has taken on a variety of sub-careers: adoption home studies, supervision of other counselors, teaching mental health courses, and running support groups for young parents. She started as a play therapist and learned to work with parents and teachers to resolve the behavioral issues the children demonstrated. She specialized in adopted children and their families making the adjustment to a permanent family. She has been working with couples to communicate and listen to each other. She works with the elderly to make their adjustments with life changes.
